Dog Adoption Success Dataset
Dog Adoption Success is a dataset on canine adoption success rates designed to assess the quality and durability of canine adoption matches. It can be used to predict whether an adoption relationship will be successfully maintained, the reasons for return, and the return time. This dataset contains 42,000 records, covering 15 dog characteristic dimensions, 11 adopter characteristic dimensions, and 2 matching characteristic dimensions. The modeling results show that the overall positive sample (return) ratio is 15%. Its statistical distribution is rigorously calibrated from real shelter research literature, reproducing research findings such as behavioral problems driving returns, high expectations being a risk factor, and first-time dog owners having a higher return rate.
Data fields:
Besides the unique adoption identifier adoption\_id, there are a total of 31 valid fields.
- Dog characteristics dimensions (15): age at adoption, size, weight, breed group, type of shelter, number of days spent in shelter before adoption, medical needs, previous return records, whether the dog is spayed/neutered, and shelter behavior assessment (including aggression, separation anxiety, responsiveness to other dogs, energy level, training level, and home-training).
- Adopter characteristics dimensions (11): first adoption experience, family children, whether there are pets at home, housing type, whether there is a yard, daily alone time of the dog, adopter's activity level, number of visits before adoption, whether the adopter had contact with the pets at home before adoption, whether the adopter received adoption counseling, and initial expectation rating.
- Matching feature dimensions (2): energy matching index and body type and residence matching index.
- Target variables (3): whether to return, return reason classification, and return time.
